Holiday Island was started in 1969 by McCulloch Oil Company. McCullhoch built eight other planned communities – among the more well-known is Lake Havasu, Arizona.
The Ownership of Holiday Island was transferred in 1975 to MCO Holdings, a large publicly held conglomerate. MCO continued Holiday Island development to 1989.
In the interim, from 1980 to 1989, Tom Dees was the managing executive of Holiday Island for MCO, heading up all operational and financial activities, including: development, marketing, sales, and administration. In 1990, Mr. Dees acquired the remaining assets of Holiday Island from MCO and its successor Maxxam – Houston, Texas.
From that point and for the last 20 years, Tom has been the exclusive developer of Holiday Island, turning over all properties to the District debt free as fully developed, at an estimated value of $40 million.
The balance of Mr. Dees’ remaining Holiday Island residential and commercial properties today are held by the Holiday Island Development Corporation, an Arkansas corporation, 100% owned and controlled by Tom Dees.
